America is a continent not a country. You mean things in the U.S. that you do not understand.

In regards to the high school thing, we hate it because of how it's designed. The system is out there to make us miserable. It was designed by a man named John Dewey. He was a psychopath who hated children, and designed a system that was deliberately as frustrating as possible.

The bento thing... you could say that it's not meant to be a restaurant you would find in japan. Moreso it's meant to be a place to go and eat japanese food. Honestly the restaurant bento reminds me a lot of a western "combo"/"variety" meal. So it's basically that but with a special theme.

Honestly I think the hand thing isn't rude I do it for the exact reason u want to but a good server would be on top of it all the time no matter what

Your teeth are fine, braces for adults are weird. About Bento box dinners : I think it's a way of providing a variety of foods in small amounts so you can taste a number of things that you might not want a full meal of. BTW I love Japanese food, esp raw egg with rice, sukiyaki, sushi, etc.

the "being progressive" depends on what is being discussed as some of those things even seem backwards or unhelpful or useless to other Americans lol

Want us to complain about Japan? Why do you people always judge everything through the prism of hierarchy? Idea's good or bad? Nah, idea's proposed by your senpai or kouhai.

    - Raising your hand just to get the waiter’s attention isn’t really rude, you just shouldn’t expect them to drop everything and run over immediately. If you’re just trying to let them know from across the room that you’d like to talk to them, it’s perfectly fine. What’s rude is snapping or calling “waiter” instead of “excuse me”. Basically, the idea is treat them like a person and not a servant.

    - American high school is highly restrictive with many arbitrary rules. Classes are either so easy they’re mind-numbing, or so difficult they make college look easy. We get very little support from adults on things like clubs, or anything really. All the responsibility of being an adult, with none of the freedom. We’re expected to spend a huge amount of time and effort being the perfect student with many extra curricular activities and a summer job so that our college applications will be perfect. It’s very stressful. It can be hard to make good friends in that environment as well.

All this kind of stuff is normal when you're living abroad. There are the things that you love about a foreign country and things you hate about it at the same time. My theory is that every country is kind of crazy, but you're just used to the crazy that you grew up with.

I spent several years teaching ESL, too, and so I had people from all over the world asking me questions about America. The one I could never answer was "why are there big gaps in the doors in American bathroom stalls?"

What I thought weird in America :
    1) tipping even if service was near to nil
    2) sugar in bottle of water. I thought I bought water like Evian 😐
    3) putting tons of ice 🧊 in my cup

Not sure if it's because I've tried to eat as many different cultural foods as possible. But don't find anything listed above as weird.
The only thing I can say, as this is caused by the fact there's basically none of it here in America, is cultural dishes and sides involving whole bugs. I get that they're great in terms of protein the production value compared to other sources but.. never tried any and not sure I'd be up for it or not.

I agree with the who "free the nipples" thing, because logically, it makes sense that both guys and girls should be allowed to do it, HOWEVER, as a female, I simply would feel too weird to do that in public even if I lived in a place where I could, this is the type of thing that I do by myself, for comfort reasons, in my own house, when no one's around. So I think getting used to that change would be weird for both American men and women as well really.

Wait in America they don't rise their hands to ask for condiments or reorder? Then wtf are you tiping the waiter for? Their salary covers strictly taking and bringing orders. The tip is for the quality of service they offer you...
